Hello yuletide bringer!

First up, thank you. I'm so excited to be participating in another round of Yuletide. I can't wait to read your fic gift.

You can poke around this journal if you want to read any of my old letters. You can also find me on Ao3 here if you'd like to see my fics or check out my profile for bookmarks of fics I enjoy.

This letter is meant to just help you out - maybe give you some ideas if you're stuck or give you a feel for the things I love. But please don't stress - Yuletide should be fun! I know I'll love whatever you write for me.

The basic stuff:

LOVES:
*genfic (this is not to say that I don't adore a well written piece of smut, but I prefer some plot with it)
*I love small, internal exploration fics that explore my favourite character's headspace (but if you have an epic tale you want to write, I'm down with that too)
*snark, banter and true to voice dialogue are huge, huge loves
*canon divergent AU's (exploring a 'what if' moment is my weakness)
*angst, always angst
*found families
*broken boys, badasses with a (secret) heart of gold, the sidekick that outshines the hero, strong women who don’t have to sacrifice their vulnerability and unrepentant bastards

DNWS
:
*no explicit details of rape (referencing a canon event is ok)
*incest
*underage sex
*completely non canon AU’s (coffee shop, pirates, etc)
*genderswap/mpreg
*animal cruelty
*any 'play' involving bodily fluids
*a/b/o
*all out fluff (happy/hopeful endings are fine)
*2nd person POV

The requests:

Stranger Things (TV 2016)Collapse )

Jem and the Holograms (Comics)Collapse )

Suicide Squad (2016)Collapse )

Thank you dear author and happy writing!

Greetings and Salutations,

Thank you so much for writing me what I'm sure is going to be an amazing fic :). This is my first year participating in Not Ready for Prime Time and I'm super excited.

This lj is pretty much unused except for writing exchanges but feel free to poke around. You can find my writings on Ao3 and my random postings on my tumblr as well.

I'm fairly easy going but have included a few general loves/DNW's to help:

LOVES:
*genfic (this is not to say that I don't adore a well written piece of smut, but I prefer some plot instead of a straight up PWP)
*I love small, internal exploration fics that explore my favourite character's headspace (but if you have an epic tale you want to write I'm down with that too)
*snark, banter and true to voice dialogue are huge, huge loves
*I have massive love for AU that jumps off from a point in canon (OMG "WHAT IFS" ARE MY WEAKNESS)
*Angst. All the time.
*found families

DNWS
*no explicit details of rape (referencing a canon event is ok)
*no camp counselor/pirate/coffee shop or any other complete non canon AU’s
*incest
*infidelity
*genderswap/mpreg
*all out fluff (though I do like a hopeful or happy ending)
*a/b/o

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.Collapse )

FarscapeCollapse )

X-Men: Days of Future PastCollapse )

The Avengers (Marvel Movies) SPOILERS for AoUCollapse )

Please remember this letter is just meant to offer some insight into why I love the fandoms I've chosen and if you're stuck, maybe help kicstart the writing process for you - but I look forward to whatever amazing story you create for me.

Dear Author,

Welcome back Yuletide, my favourite time of the year. Since, not only am I matched with an awesome fellow fic lover who is going to write me a fabulous story based on a fandom that we both love but it’s the only time I tend to get any writing of worth done at all (I work retail, this is my holiday salvation. If you’ve ever been inside a mall on Dec.23 you know exactly what I mean).

First and foremost: Thank you! You rock, many stadiums over with what I know will be a wonderful gift to unwrap on Christmas Day. I’ve gotten some amazing gift fic and treats over the past years and I know yours will be just as adored.

You can find me on Ao3 as sarandipitee and previous DA letters are very easy to locate here in my journal as I haven’t updated this thing in forever. I’m fairly easygoing but here are some general loves/DNW’s:

what I love:
Small, character driven stories that take me right into my favourite’s head space. Snark, banter, and well written true to voice dialogue is love. Give me all the gen but if you like smut go forth and fic - but please include some plot, I’m not a huge lover of straight up PWP. Angst is my thing, and you can never go wrong with a what if moment - AU’s are amazing when grounded in canon. I can never get enough of the broken boys, badasses with a (secret) heart of gold, the loyal and awesome sidekicks who clearly need their own comic/movie/everything, strong women who don’t have to sacrifice their vulnerability and unrepentant bastards. Found families are my weakness.

what I don’t love:
Please no incest (unless referencing an established canonical pairing) and no explicit descriptions of rape or using rape as a plot device (referencing a canon event is ok). Also, no complete non canon AU’s (coffee shop, pirates, etc), any‘play’ involving bodily fluids, beastiality, mpreg, genderswap, and all out fluff.

Saga (comics)Collapse )

10 Years (2011)Collapse )

Edge of Tomorrow (2014)Collapse )

and my lone holdover from last year:

Thanks and Happy Writing!

So. Yuletide. We meet again.

To start, thank you. I know, no matter what fandom we are matched on that I will adore whatever you write for me. I love Yuletide - it's produced some of the best fic for small fandoms I've ever read (and while I may be a little biased I count my own gifts and treats in that grouping).

This is my third year participating in the madness. I live under the name of sarandipitee on AO3 and please feel free to poke around my profile there or here at my journal (which, as you can see hasn't been updated in eons). Previous letters to you lovely author types can be found here and here.

This letter is meant to offer some insight into why I love the fandoms I've chosen and if you're stuck, maybe get the wheels turning a little bit - but I look forward to whatever magical slice of fiction pie you dish up for me.

What do I love: getting inside my favourite character's headspace, making me see and feel what they do. I love small, character driven pieces  - the simple moments that make my people shine. I adore well-written and true to character dialogue. Bring on all the snark and banter. Gen is my weapon of choice - I don't have any ZOMG OTP TO END ALL OTP, but if you're more of a ship writer I've included my favourites when applicable.

AU, good AU, is always lovely - but only when grounded from a canon starting point rather then everyone say, becoming pirates. What if moments are gold to me. Angst is preferred over sunshine and unicorns but if you feel the story needs some light after all the dark, go for it. Unless it's outright fluff I'm cool. Sex is fine, as long as it's serving the story. Porn without plot doesn't do it for me.

I have a weakness for broken boys, badasses with hearts of gold, vulnerable kick ass women, the loyal sidekicks and the unrepentant bastards. Found families and the friendships built from them are love.

What I dislike: Please no explicit descriptions of rape or sexual assault (referencing canon is fine), incest (unless referencing an established canonical pairing), any sort of "play" involving bodily fluids (meaning scat, watersports, vomit, blood, enemas, vore and everything/anything else), cheating/infidelity (unless it's established in canon), gender-swap/mpreg, beastiality, necrophilia and Alpha/Beta/Omega fic.

onto the requests:

Top of the LakeCollapse )

The AuthorityCollapse )

IT CrowdCollapse )

ScandalCollapse )

Spartan (2004)Collapse )

Terminator (Movies)Collapse )

Thanks and happy writing!

Why hello bringer of Yule and Joy! Before we get into all the nitty gritty details, let me offer a huge thanks and basket of kittens for writing me fic. This is my second year participating in Yuletide and I'm so excited to be back.

Here's a link to my letter last year.  Feel free to poke around my journal (though I rarely update this puppy anymore) or check out my profile on AO3: sarandipitee.

Like last year I'll try to help out by listing some of what I love and what I don't to try and help you out but (hopefully) not make you crazy.

I love the inner workings of my favourite characters. The more time spent inside their heads, the better. While big, epic plots are fun, most of my favourite stories are small, simple moments that highlight great characterization.

I adore snark and witty banter and true to voice dialogue. I love reading a story and hearing the actors voice in my head because the words on the laptop screen sound so much like something I've watched before.

I do have a weakness for broken boys (Dean Winchester, Derek Reese, Mal Reynolds, John Crichton, Jesse Pinkman) and nine times out of ten I fall for the sidekick over the traditional hero/main character (Kenzi from Lost Girl, Willow Rosenberg, Tig Trager). I love women who balance strength and vulnerability - think Aeryn Sun, Fiona Gallagher and Jenny Sparks. You've probably noticed that 3 out of my 4 requests revolved around the ladies.

I am a big fan of AU - but there has to be a starting point from somewhere in canon. I love what if? moments, a look at what might have been. And bring on the angst - not to say I won't enjoy a happy ending, but it's not needed make me enjoy a fic. Sex is fine, epecially if well written and serves the story but I'm not a big porn without plot fan.

As for my please avoid at all costs I don't like incest, kinks aren't my thing (no bodily fluid 'play' of any type, necrophilia or bestiality) and any explicit description(s) of rape are out. I don't care for super crack! or meta fic (especially for these particular requests) and please no genderswap or mpreg. And while I don't hate slash/femslash, I'm not seeing it for any of my requests.

Onto the reqs:

Fandom: Looper
Characters: Abe, Kid Blue

I would love to see someone give me some backstory on these 2 characters. Abe, especially, since he is from the future and know one really knows much about him. Part of me wonders if there is some connection between Abe and Kid Blue - Abe has so much disgust for Kid who trys so hard to please this man. Could Abe be the future son of Kid Blue, who hates watching his weak and misguided young father constantly fuck up? Does Kid see Abe as a substitute for someone missing in his life? Bonus points for details and epic world building as Looper has one of the best takes on the future in anything I've ever seen.

Fandom: John Carter of Mars (2012 movie)
Characters: John Carter, Dejah Thoris

10 years. It's a long time to be separated. We saw glimpses of John's search around the globe to find away back to his beloved on Barsoom, but what about Dejah herself? What happened to her after the Tharks cast her husband back to his home on Earth? I'd love to see her side of the story as well as their reunion. This would be the only request where I wouldn't mind my 'doesn't have to be a happy ending' rule being broken.

Fandom: Girls
Characters: Jessa Johansson, Hannah Horvath, Adam Sackler, Shoshanna Shapiro

I wanted to hate this show. I found the premise vain and pretentious and I hated Hannah in the first episode. But then something magical happened around the 3rd show and I was in love. I adore this show. It's a pure guilty pleasure with some of the funniest moments in tv I've ever seen. I've really got no set guidelines for this request. Wanna write a funny lost moment from the warehouse party with Shoshanna and her Crack Spirit guide? Go for it. Wanna take a whirl at the weeks following Jessa and her impulsive marriage? Do it. The sky is the limit with this one. Bonus points for hilarious dialogue for any make up sex scenes you write for Hannah and Adam.

Fandom: Sons Of Anarchy
Characters: Tara Knowles, Gemma Teller Morrow

This show. Sometimes I find it so unbelievable and so over the top that it loses me a little (see all of season 3 and most of 4). But I've come back to Charming this year and mainly it has to do with Gemma. I love that woman. I don't always like her or agree with the shit she pulls but I do respect her crazy when it comes to protecting her family. I would love to see something about Gemma and Tara - they have such a unique, twisted, unhealthy and yet nurturing bond. If you want to toss in some Unser and some Tig, you can haz all the ice cream.

I really hope this letter has been more help than make you pull your hair out and please remember, Dear Author, I will love you and your story forever and always.

So as I nurse a coffee this lovely new year morn (completely hangover free, thanks to a very low key evening last night) I wanted to give thanks to all the wonderful people and fic that made my first yuletide such a fantastic experience.

Onto the goodies!

It's a Goofy Christmas... Err, Sorry Schmidt... Holiday Episode   (fandom: New Girl) was my fabulous gift. Author zephyrprince did an amazing job taking my cracktastic prompt and running with it. I had wanted first Christmas together fic which explained the origins of the gang and had some silly extras. Almost everything was included (which was awesome), Coach came home for a visit (yay!) and every single line that came out of Schmidt's mouth was a delight. I'd also like to take this Nick home and have him be my roommate/flirty maybe boy-toy. Just sayin'. It was the perfect amount of sweet and humour that I look forward to when I watch the show. Hugs, lovely author. Massive hugs.

And the crazy part is that I was also given a treat this year! First time and I get a bonus (see, yuletide ~ you've hooked me now, I'll see you next year). Kenzi's Holiday Traditions (fandom: Lost Girl) by sabrina_il was this lovely Kenzi-centered fic. A detailed, plausible and intriguing back story about her life on the streets before Bo, her family and her Russian background. The little touches are glorious. Thank you, dear author for spoiling me.

So, what does a girl offer to write for when it's her first time participating in a big, anonymous fic exchange? Why 5 different fandoms she's never, ever written a single word in before. I'm sorta insane that way. Thank goodness for handholding from lovely friends and betas.

I wrote To know and loathe, yet wish and do (fandom: Lost Girl) for sweetjamielee. Lost Girl is a show I adore (mainly for the aforementioned Kenzi, kick ass sidekick extraordinaire) and I was so lucky to have been matched on it. My recip had wanted to see a new side to Lauren (resident fae Doctor and succubus lover); something darker and rebellious. It was a challenge and a pleasure to write this. Lauren is someone so complex and I had to (hopefully) find the right balance between the hope and light that she is and the weight of the burdens she carries and cages she's created for herself. I also got to include cameo's by all three of the named secondary characters my recip had asked for in the yule letter which was a ton of fun. Trick is someone I would love to revisit and like my recip I adore the Dyson/Lauren dynamic (though I was smart enough to keep Kenzi's entire scene to less than a paragraph; there was no way I could tackle her awesomeness in a full fledged supporting role). It really was a fic full of first times for me and I'm pretty proud of it (and tickled pink by the lovely comment from sweetjamielee).

I had started, rather halfheartedly, a treat of my own to gift but being that I work retail and the holiday season is bonkers squared I did never finish it. Now that I've got one yuletide under my belt, I'm hoping next year I can give back more.

Total word count 3173 (not bad) and 1 story (will work on improving this). If not for martinigrl and freneticfloetry I never would have made it through. I'll never look at painting with Bob Ross, memos from the desk of Nick Fury, red pens or Christmas the same way again. Thanks for all the encouragement, brainstorming and not killing me when I had my freakouts. Y'all rock the kasbah.

Recc's are coming later.

Dear Author,

First of all, I want to thank you for writing me my story. I'm so stoked to think that I'll be receiving an amazing fic based on one of my beloved, smaller yet awesome fandoms. Can you tell it's my first Yuletide?

I'll try to make this list of loves and dislikes as clear as possible but still give you enough room to create a fic without hindrance.

To start, I'm a big fan of character driven, internal exploration pieces. This isn't to say that I don't enjoy an epic plot-centric story but some of my favourite fics of all time are the smaller, quieter pieces that highlight a simple moment.

I love Gen - not to say I don't appreciate a romantic (or heck, even a good smut) fic but I'm not much of a shipper and I don't even have a OTP anymore.

I adore broken boys. No matter what the fandom they are who I go to first (Dean Winchester, Derek Reece, Michael Guerin, Stephen Holder, Mal Reynolds, Jesse Pinkman, Arkady Balagin). I've never been one to follow the most popular person at school - to me the sidekicks, the outsiders are much more interesting in pretty much any fandom I've dabbled in.

I love snark, sarcasm and good banter. Dialogue is one of those things I wish I could master in my own stories so I'm a huge lover of anyone who can tap into a character's voice.

I'm a fan of well plotted, well developed AU - especially if it jumps off from a cannon point and showcases something that should have been or something that almost was (I LOVE a good what if scenario). This doesn't mean it has to be epic - just a small glimpse into the other world is one of my favourite things ever. Also, a good crossover is a thing of beauty.

As for dislikes - my one big, huge no go is incest (squicks me out like no other). Sex is fine, especially when used well - but porn without plot isn't my thing. Sometimes a ton of UST is just as good. Any canon pairings are fine and I have no problems with UC pairings. I don't hate fluff, but happy endings for the sake of happy isn't necessary with me.

My current favourite obsessions include Game of Thrones, Supernatural, Breaking Bad, Dexter, Lost Girl, Revenge, Community, The Walking Dead and The New Girl. Old standbys are Firefly, Veronica Mars, Farscape, Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles, Life and BTVS. Favourite books/series would be Kushiel's Legacy by Jacqeline Carey, The Kingslayer Chronicles by Patrick Rothfuss, Dante Valentine + Jill Kismet books by Lilith Saintcrow anything in the vast Neil Gaiman library.

I hope this has helped you more than driven you mad and again, huge thanks and hugs for writing me something amazing.

Onto the reqs:

1.) Endgame - Arkady Balagan. My newest obsession that has become the latest member of the 'it only got one season to air and break my heart' club. So much of what makes this show so amazing is Arkady and his interactions with Sam, Pippa and the staff at the hotel. The relationship that intrigues me most is with Dani, the Huxley's bartender. With Pippa there's an annoyance at her dogged investigation into her sister's death and (I'm sure) a daily reminder to her that's both comfort and cruelty. With Sam, who's all eagerness and innocence - there's the manifestation of the young man, boy even that Arkady never was. But with Dani, he's almost relaxed, he smiles more and in some instances nearly flirts. This isn't to say that he's not still grieving and twisted with guilt over his fiancee ('cause he sooo is) but there's a connection. The setup? After closing, in the Huxley's bar. Arkady, barefoot and in robe convinces Dani to open another bottle of vodka. Alcohol shared and secrets spoken. Origins in the dark. Who is Arkady Balagan? And what ghost(s) has he left behind?
What I don't want? dani/arkady. Too soon for that.

2) Lost Girl - Kenzi. Ok, let's face it. In this instance the sidekick is infinitely cooler than the hero. Kenzi is a force of nature who lurrrvvvess Bo and do anything for her bestest succubus friend but she rarely gets to shine on her own.
The setup? Think the Adventures of Kenzi, the awesomesauce! Let's say Dyson and Bo are off on some mission for the Ashe (this can be pre S2 if you like - doesn't need a specific time frame). Kenzi, bored out of her mind, manages to get herself into a bit of Fae trouble and has to find her way out of it with only her street smarts, sassy attitude and purely human skills to aide her. Maybe Trick offers to keep an eye on her for Bo and puts her to work in the bar and things go awry from there. The only stipulation is that this is all Kenzi fic, all the time. Bonus points if we get Hale and flirting. What I don't want? Bo saving the day.

3) The New Girl - all characters. It's the cheesy Christmas special, Charlie Brown! It's the gang's first Christmas together and Jess is adamant that it will be the best one ever! In between listening to Jess sing every Christmas carol known to man and being forced to miss hockey playoffs to watch Garfield's Christmas and the Grinch the guys tell Jess how each one came to live in their apartment. Bonus points: decorating the tree with car air freshners (Schmidt forgot to buy ornaments and that was all he could find at the 7/11 on Christmas Eve), Nick getting drunk on rum and egg nog and wanting to call his ex and Winston getting teary eyed at (insert your choice of Christmas special here).
What I don't want? No restrictions dear author. Go wild.

So lovely Author, thank you and I hope you enjoy writing as much as I will enjoy reading.
